Helping Your Child Succeed
Thank you for checking out this page. That is step one in helping your child.....being involved! One way to be involved is to check your child's book bag every night. Important information can be sent home any day of the week. In checking your child's book bag you will also be familiar with the homework assignment for the night. Please check over your child's homework every night as well. Homework is a review so it is CRUCIAL to practice skills correctly. If your child is not doing their homework correctly, it is important to show them what mistakes they are making and guide them to practice correctly. For example, if a child completes an entire page of addition problems incorrectly, they are reinforcing mistakes which is not helping them. We all make mistakes but we need to learn from them. This is why it is important that you look over homework nightly. In addition to written homework, reading nightly is also CRUCIAL to success.
Reading to an adult, discussing books and practicing reading with expression and fluency will help your child improve and feel confident as a reader. Reading on Razkids.com is also a great way for your child to get a daily dose of reading. It also has a comprehension component which is the most important facet of reading.
There are many ways to get involved at Hempstead School. You can join the PTA, attend meetings, volunteer at book fairs and school events. We are so happy to have the support of our Hempstead Hero families. Looking forward to seeing you soon!
